Latest News Posted 7/13/2010 - PolicyOne now subscribes to “Innovation Economy 360”, The Leading Source for Understanding Regional Innovation, and a service of Decision Data Resources. This new tool enables PolicyOne to access and analyze key economic indicators for assessing a region’s performance and potential for competing in the innovation-driven economy. Until PolicyOne’s partnership with Decision Data Resources, PolicyOne was performing innovation economy analysis at the state level for clients. This new tool allows PolicyOne to conduct such analyses at the regional level including for metropolitan and micropolitan statistical areas and counties. This new tool puts PolicyOne at the forefront of providing regional tech-based economic analysis, evaluation, and strategies. Posted 10/1/2009 - New Report Fire Service Resource Deployment Study, City of Lewiston, Maine. PolicyOne completed a base-line study of the deployment of the City’s fire department resources, specifically the location of fire stations and assigned apparatus. The study is part of a strategic operations plan documenting existing and preferred station locations and fire service-levels in the City of Lewiston to meet current and anticipated needs. The show can be viewed online at: http://www.mainebiz.biz/mainebizsunday.html Posted 3/12/2009 - New Report Evaluates Maine’s Economic Development Portfolio – The recently released Maine Comprehensive Economic Development Evaluation 2008 finds that overall Maine’s economic development portfolio of programs is having a positive impact on the state’s economy and the programs are meeting their intended purposes. The report finds that in 2008 Maine’s programs helped support the creation and retention of more than 16,000 jobs. The report also finds however, that Maine needs to do a better job at increasing business access to programs and coordinating the assistance provided among the various programs. The Maine Comprehensive Economic Development Evaluation 2008 was prepared for the Maine Department of Economic & Community Development a team of analysts that included PolicyOne Research, EntreWorks Consulting, The Center for Regional Economic Competitiveness, and RUPRI Center for Rural Entrepreneurship. It is a first of its kind comprehensive evaluation of state economic development programs. Posted 1/30/2009 - New Report Tracks Maine's Competitiveness in the Innovation Economy – The Maine Innovation Index 2009 prepared for the Maine Office of Innovation by PolicyOne Research is a compilation of over 70 indicators and sub-indicators measuring the state's capacity and progress toward competing in an innovation-driven economy. The indicators are organized into five categories representing key components of an innovation-based economy, including research and development, innovation, employment/output, education, and connectivity. The Index is part of the Maine’s nationally recognized process for evaluating state investments to support research and development and innovation. Since 1997 Maine has invested more than $400 million to support research and development. This year’s report reveals that while the state has made progress it still lags that of its competitors on many key indicators including industry R&D, graduate level enrollments for science and engineering programs, and technology employment. His areas of expertise include fire-rescue services, emergency management, and code enforcement. He holds undergraduate degrees in fire science and administration, a master's in public administration, and a certificate in geographic information systems. He is currently working on a certificate in geospatial intelligence through Penn State University. Bruce will use his expertise in GIS to enhance PolicyOne services. Posted 4/20/2008 - New Report Assesses and Presents Strategies for Growing Maine’s Targeted Technology Clusters - Maine’s Technology Sectors and Clusters: Status and Strategy 2008 prepared for the Maine Technology Institute and Maine Office of Innovation was prepared by a team led by the Maine Center for Business and Economic Research at University of Southern Maine and included PolicyOne Research, the Battelle Institute, and Planning Decisions. Overall, the report found that Maine’s effort to grow a technology intensive economy is well underway and while there are weaknesses and challenges, the foundations are strong and warrant further support. PolicyOne was the principal investigator/analyst for the sectors of information technology and forest products and agriculture.
