Economic Impact of Maine's Targeted Technology Sectors - 2010

Summary

The performance and growth potential of Maine's targeted technology sectors has been the subject of two statewide “cluster” analyses, one in 2002 and a follow-up in 2008. They are also tracked annually as part of Maine’s Comprehensive Research & Development Evaluation and Maine Innovation Index.  PolicyOne has prepared an overview of the employment and economic impact of Maine's targeted technology sectors using a new economic modeling tool we have recently subscribed to. 

What we found

  • The Forestry and Agriculture sector represented the largest targeted technology sector with 35,848 employees in 2010.
  • Maine’s targeted technology sectors had a total employment level of 68,683 in 2010 representing 8.4% of all employment in Maine.
  • In 2009 there were 4,153 establishments in Maine’s targeted technology sectors representing 8.2% of all establishments in Maine..
